There’s nothing better than a good National Park road trip, and our family recently did one to two of the best: Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado, and Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. As an AZ native, I’ve been to the Grand Canyon many times, but this was my first visit to the Great Sand Dunes, and it was pure magic. Everyone should visit this remarkable place:
We were fortunate to be there on a crisp day with few visitors, and it felt almost other-worldly.

Like many lands now considered National Parks, the area that comprises the Great Sand Dunes has an affiliation with nineteen Native American tribes despite the tribes’ forcible removal by the U.S. Government in the late 1800s.
